What is IPL?
IPL stands for intense pulsed light. It is filtered light, not a laser, delivered in short pulses. We use the Candela Nordlys IPL.
Blood in small vessels and pigment at the base of the top layer of skin (the colour in sun spots) absorb the light and turn it into heat. For redness, the heat closes the small vessels. You can read more on our IPL technology page.
How much does each IPL treatment cost?
We list every price exactly as it appears on our booking system, Fresha. Here is what each IPL treatment costs per session:
- Pigmentation & sun damage: from $100, depending on the area
- Redness & rosacea: from $299
- Skin rejuvenation: from $299
Some people want to treat tone and texture in the same visit. Our Texture & Tone Treatment combines IPL with the Frax 1550 laser in one 90-minute, full-face appointment, and it is from $699. The full list is on our prices page.
Why do some prices say "from"?
A "from" price means the cost depends on how much skin is being treated. A few sun spots on one cheek take less time than a full face, the chest or both hands. The starting price is for a smaller area.
At your consultation we look at the area you want treated. We tell you the price for your session before anything is booked, so there is no surprise at the end.
What affects the total cost?
The price per session is one part of it. The total also depends on a few things that differ from person to person:
- The concern. Redness and visible vessels are priced differently from sun spots.
- The size of the area. The face, chest and hands each take a different amount of time.
- How many sessions you need. We tell you the number at your consultation.
- Maintenance. IPL does not cure rosacea, and maintenance once or twice a year is common.
How many sessions will I need?
Redness usually takes about four sessions, 2–4 weeks apart. Sun spots take a series of sessions about a month apart, and results vary from person to person.
We set the number at your consultation after we have looked at your skin. That way you know the likely total before you start, rather than finding out halfway through.
What comes before treatment?
Every treatment starts with a one-on-one consultation. It takes 30 minutes.
We assess your skin, talk about what you want to change and check whether IPL suits your skin tone. At your consultation we'll tell you how many sessions you'll need and the price.
Is IPL right for every skin tone?
We check your skin at the consultation and confirm whether IPL is suitable. If it isn't the right fit, we say so.
Melasma needs an assessment first, because IPL can make it worse.
Why choose a local studio for IPL?
We are at 68 Centennial Parkway South in Stoney Creek, Hamilton, convenient for Burlington, Grimsby, Ancaster and Dundas.
A series means coming back a few times, and a studio close to home or work makes those appointments easier to keep. You can see Candela clinical before and after photos from the Nordlys system on our results page.
Questions people ask
How much is one IPL session in Hamilton?
At our Stoney Creek studio, IPL for sun spots is from $100 per session and IPL for redness is from $299 per session. The exact price depends on the area, and we confirm it at your consultation.
Why is IPL priced per session?
Each session is a separate appointment, and the number of sessions differs from person to person. Pricing per session means you pay for the treatment you actually have.
How many IPL sessions do most people need?
Redness usually takes about four sessions, 2–4 weeks apart, and sun spots a series about a month apart. We tell you the number at your consultation.
Will I need to pay for more sessions later?
Possibly. IPL doesn't cure rosacea, and maintenance once or twice a year is common.
Can I treat redness and sun spots at the same time?
Often, yes, since IPL light is absorbed by both blood in small vessels and pigment. We look at both at your consultation and tell you which treatment fits.
